Summer 2009! The next scheduled events are for the Florida Junior Elite Showcase. Four different locations for rising middle school players on May 30 (Jacksonville),

Congratulations goes to a very, good friend of mine, Coach John Picchiarini! He has been promoted to head coach two weeks after veteran Mike Leatherwood announced his retirement. I am posting this information as he will be holding an open tryout at the Indian River State College gym on Saturday, July 11.
Just finished reading Evan Daniel's article over on ScoutHoops. A good read as the interest turns away from the Class of 2009 with Xavier Henry being the last Top 10 to select his one and done option of Kansas. John Wall put Kentucky in his one and done situation and Coach Cal can't be more excited, you know that! Lance Stephenson will likely follow suit in this option. Here I thought Brandon Jennings was paving a new road with his European stint. Well, maybe not, if you kept up at all with his season away the US. But, Jennings did succeed (or survive?) a year after high school to have his dreams of the NBA come true.
With spring all but faded away in the rearview mirror and the July evaluation period just ahead, now is a good time to look at those players that have improved their stock and those that have burst on the scene. These are the Rapid Risers and Fresh Faces for the Class of 2010.

I took in the Hoop Mountain Middle School Showcase this past weekend in Orlando. While there were some good, young, talented athletes, there was one glaring weakness shared by all attendees: the lack of proper shooting mechanics.

It has been said that there is nothing new in basketball. Well, there is and Montverde Academy’s Kevin Sutton is one of the trailblazers. He has been selected to be an assistant coach on this country’s first ever 16U World Team. It will compete in a qualifying event in Argentina June 17 thru 21 and the top three finishers will compete in the FIBA 17U World Championships in Germany next year.
