Jim Haley, Head Coach at Ocala-Vanguard for over 30 years, came across this very interesting tidbit. He came across the HISTORY of women's basketball by state and for ALL levels. I figured I would share this very small piece of history in our state. These are the scoring "leaders" for Florida High School basketball. Enjoy!
Moramarco's Notebook - Weekend Edition: 8/09/08

I am excited about the upcoming basketball season. Several events are being organized by various tournament directors and schools. I was sent a nice e-mail by someone stating that I must get paid to promote various events. I did get a good chuckle. Just because I support other events, does not mean I get paid to do it.
I am the first person to e-mail college coaches about the Kreul Classic, Naples Daily News Holiday Classic, Junior Orange Bowl, Academy of Holy Names, South Lake High School's Florida Citrus Shootout, and any other event that sends me information. If I was a cold hearted person, I would ask for a fee, but I believe in supporting events that help promote the sport in our state. No fees attached.
Ranking Philosophy

Someone posted an interesting note several days ago about rating players. We, as a staff, have had talks about this before. Rick and I have discussed this on numerous occasions over the years. We had decided on posting our opinions in this matter and a good synopsis got lost in the email shuffle earlier in the summer. Well, I stumbled on the email this morning and wanted to share with everyone.
Many times Florida Hoops has been asked about how we rate players, what is the difference between a 5-ball player and a 4-ball player, and other similar questions. With the launch of the new website, now is a good time to digitize our philosophy and explain what goes into our thinking when we rate players.

I am excited to see the Florida Association of Basketball Coaches really taking off. The Board of Directors met Monday at the Rosen Center Hotel in Orlando. Many exciting items were discussed. Please check out the release about FABC at Floridahoops.com!
The dues are $30 for the year and are tax deductable because the Association is a non-profit organization. I have the application available to e-mail.
