This event could have been played in Crestview, Key West, or any point in between and we would have been there. It could have had four teams, all with 0-21 records, and we would have been there. Fortunately, the Nike Team Florida organization held this event to honor a true giant and gentleman in the world of high school basketball in his adopted home town of Ocala at Vanguard High School and brought in four state title contending teams.

The seventh annual Montverde Academy Invitational
Tournament took place this past weekend.
It featured 4 teams in the ESPNU National Top 50 as well as some solid
Florida programs. With four games each
day of the three day event, there was more than enough hoops to go around.

Outside of the holidays, when school is not in session, national-caliber tournaments do not take place due to time constraints. One event that goes against that trend is the Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament. Now in its seventh year, the event brings together nationally-ranked teams from out-of-state to challenge some of Florida’s finest.
This year’s event will take place January 28-30 (this Thursday thru Saturday) and brings in Pre-Season #1 ranked and last year’s M.A.I.T. winner Findlay Prep from Las Vegas; Montrose Christian from Rockville, MD; Arlington Country Day from Jacksonville; Woods Haven Academy from Dania; Chaminade-Madonna from Hollywood, FL; Oak Ridge from Orlando; Orlando Christian Prep; and host team Montverde Academy.

Hoop Mountain Matchup Evaluations

The First Annual Hoop Mountain Matchup boasted a field of 8 teams from around the state and was highlighted by the night cap where #2-6A Winter Springs hosted #8-6A East Ridge. With a strong second half, the Bears edged the visitors 55-53. Here's a look at the top prospects from all 4 games.
Mosaic Stinger Shootout

The Stinger Shootout presented by Mosaic will be held February 5th and 6th, 2010 at Bartow High School. The event features some of the best teams in the state. Nationally ranked Montverde Academy faces off against the host school at 7:30PM on Saturday evening followed by Dr. Phillips taking on Kathleen (Lakeland) to close out an annal event that continues to get better.
