Prospect Profile: Alonzo Taylor

September 13, 2013 by Eric Wallace

This time of year it is common for college coaches to be in search of two things, size and point guard play. Coral Springs Charter senior Alonzo Taylor is an under the radar lead guard prospect that will likely turn some heads this season.

Former Division I coach and current Coral Springs Charter Head Coach Alex Groothius has high praise for Taylor who was an honorable mention All-Broward County selection last season. “Alonzo is the heart and soul of our team. He’s a great playmaker with a knack for knocking down big shots,” said Groothius.

The 5’10 lead guard is starting to pick up interest from Division I programs including Northwestern State, Wisconsin-Green Bay and North Florida but Taylor is concentrating on improving his game for the upcoming season.

“I am working on getting quicker and improving my on-ball defense.” said the senior guard who is in such of a program with solid academics and a chance to compete for minutes early in his college career.

The Panthers will rely heavily on Taylor and junior guard Austin Vaughn in a very competitive district that includes Pine Crest, University School and North Broward Prep. “He’s a winner. He makes his teammates better and is a coachable lead guard with a high basketball IQ and a great understanding for the game,” added Groothius.
